One of my favourite things about being a newborn photographer is getting to work with babies and young children. Before I had a daughter of my own, I never really felt that comfortable around children. If someone would hand me their baby, I’d try to look like I knew what I was doing. Really though, I wasn’t entirely sure how to hold them, what I was supposed to say to them, or what on earth I could do if, heaven forbid, they started crying. Having a baby sure breaks you in really quickly! I’ve perfected the newborn bounce, sway, and swaddle. Most importantly, I feel comfortable knowing that babies aren’t nearly as scary as they used to seem. In fact, they’re pretty darn fun! I l just love every newborn photography session! With a little know-how (and a lot of patience), working with and posing newborns for their very first photography session is so much fun.
My session with Baby Roman took place when he was just four days old. He was so sweet, and fell into a deep sleep almost immediately. He let me gently pose him and move him about for some adorable photos. I absolutely love the one of him cuddling a hand-knitted teddy bear that matches his little bonnet. The sweet and simple images are always my favourite! Bonus detail: my mom knits many of the newborn outfits for my studio, and coordinates them to the various sessions I have coming up!
After capturing some images of him by himself on my beanbag and some cute props (that hand-carved wooden bed from Renegades Ranch, oh my goodness!), I was so happy to be able to get some gorgeous photos with mom and dad as well. What a gorgeous family!
Congratulations, to this proud mom and dad! I can’t wait to see Roman for his next milestone photos.
